8.27 Kiso River Cormorant Watching Party in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture
Cormorant fishing is an ancient fishing method in which cormorants (a type of sea bird) are trained to catch river fish by cormorant masters on cormorant boats. With Inuyama Castle, a national treasure, lit up in the background, you can see a fantastic historical picture scroll of 1300 years of tradition unfold before your eyes.
Each cormorant boat is manned by a cormorant master and a boatman, and each cormorant master controls 10 cormorants. Each boat is manned by a cormorant master and a boatman. Once the cormorants have caught the fish and come to the surface, the cormorant master pulls on the hand rope, causing the cormorants to expel the caught fish.
“As the cormorants rise to the surface, the cormorants pull on their hand ropes to release the fish they catch. With Inuyama Castle, a national treasure, lit up in the background, you can see a fantastic historical picture scroll of 1300 years of tradition unfold before your eyes.

One of the features of the Kiso River Cormorant Fishery is that you can see it clearly. The sightseeing boats come very close to the cormorant boats. Sometimes you can even feel the heat of the bonfire on your cheeks. The cormorants also come so close that you can feel the spray of the water. This is a cormorant fishing experience rather than a tour.
The Aichi Inbound Association is planning to make a video of the Kiso River cormorant fishing event and disseminate it to foreign tourists so that more of them can learn about it. We are looking forward to your participation in this event.
